Alton Ellis - Mr. Soul of Jamaica [1967]

Description:
Jamaica experienced a particularly hot summer in 1966. Ska was dance music, and the dancehalls were typically outdoors. In order to accommodate the listeners and as a result of American Rhythm and Blues influence, the music began to slow down. Rocksteady was a short lived genre. It had all but died by mid 1968--or rather morphed into the earliest reggae. Alton Ellis was known as the "Godfather of Rocksteady", and this is his first full length release.
